“A Global Quartet” and “Scheherazade”

This weekend, NHCCC is partnering with New Haven Symphony to bring Wu Man (three-time Grammy nominated pipa artist) to New Haven in two amazing programs that highlight the beauty of the Chinese musical tradition:

• “Pluck, Bow, Strum: A Global Quartet“

  Wu Man will be presenting with NHCCC Artistic Director, Dr. Joy Lu, and members of NHSO in a concert of the violin, erhu, pipa, and guitar. This is an educational program that compares and contrasts Eastern and Western instruments, “celebrating the rich traditions they represent. Through captivating performances and insightful commentary, you’ll discover how plucking, bowing, and strumming create a universal language of music — one that bridges cultures and inspires collaboration.” This is a free program. No registration necessary.

• “Scheherazade“

  “This adventurous program will feature Rimsky-Korsakov’s enchanting Scheherazade, which uses music to tell the story of 1001 Arabian Nights. NHSO proudly welcomes Wu Man – the world’s foremost pipa soloist – to serve as a ‘wordless narrator’ on Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Du Yun’s extraordinary and unusual Ears of the Book.” Please see link above for ticketing information.

Looking ahead, we are excited to bring our “Spring Flowers“ program to Russell Library on March 30, 2025. This is going to be an intimate concert where audience members get to learn about the cultural significance of different kinds of flowers in the Chinese culture through music (Lotus, jasmine, rose, peach blossoms, and more). In addition to flowers, we are also sharing some songs and a poem about the joy of spring. Seating for this concert is limited, so register for your free ticket at the Russell Library website here.
